Quartz Countertop Experience from Susan W. (Housewife from Pennsylvania)

When my husband and I were remodeling our kitchen, we spent a long time debating what material to choose for our countertops. Marble was too expensive, natural quartzite required sealing, and butcher block didn’t seem durable enough. Eventually, we decided on quartz countertop—it looked beautiful and required minimal maintenance. Now, a full year has passed since we installed our quartz countertops, and I have to say, I’m still very happy with our choice. They are scratch-resistant, stain-resistant, and incredibly easy to clean. That being said, they’re not completely indestructible—while they are marketed as heat-resistant, I did notice some slight marks when I placed a hot baking sheet directly on the surface. So, if you’re an avid baker or someone who frequently cooks with high heat, I’d recommend using trivets just to be safe.

Let me first share what I love most about our quartz countertops:

 1. Cleaning is effortless

This is hands down my favorite thing about quartz! Unlike natural stone, which can be porous and absorb stains, quartz has a non-porous surface that makes cleaning a breeze. Cooking spills like soy sauce, coffee, or oil? Just a quick wipe with a damp cloth, and they’re gone—no staining, no hassle.

One moment that really stood out to me was after my son’s birthday party. The kitchen was a complete disaster—coffee spills, red wine stains, cake crumbs everywhere. Even our old handmade rug didn’t survive, and we had to replace it. Cleaning up that mess left me exhausted, but when it came to my quartz countertops, it was a different story. A simple wipe with mild detergent and a cloth, and everything looked spotless again. I’m not exaggerating when I say that at that moment, I felt like my countertops were my saving grace. I couldn’t have been happier with my choice.

2. Scratch-resistant

We tend to be a bit rough in the kitchen—I often chop vegetables directly on the countertop (even though I know I shouldn’t!). But after a full year of use, I can hardly see any scratches. The durability is impressive! That said, I’d still recommend using a cutting board, not just to protect the countertop, but also to keep your knives sharp.

3. Stylish and hides dirt well

We chose a light-colored quartz with subtle veining, which gives our kitchen a clean yet sophisticated look. Compared to solid-colored surfaces, it does a great job at camouflaging minor everyday messes without looking plain. Sometimes, we have to crouch at odd angles to spot tiny spills we might have missed, which just goes to show how forgiving the surface is. If you love a clean kitchen but don’t want to spend your life wiping down every little splatter, quartz is a fantastic option.

We paired our countertops with white cabinets and brass hardware, and I love how it creates a timeless yet modern aesthetic. It’s classic without feeling outdated, and it’s stylish without being too trendy.

A Few Downsides to Consider

While quartz countertop is advertised as heat-resistant, I don’t think it’s entirely heatproof. I learned this the hard way when I placed a piping hot pizza pan directly on the counter and later noticed a faint shadow mark. It’s not super noticeable, but it’s there. So, as much as we love the convenience of quartz, I’d still recommend using trivets for hot cookware. If you’re used to setting hot pots directly on your countertops, this might take some getting used to, but I know you can do it! :)

Another thing to note—if your countertops are made from a single slab, that’s perfect. But if, like mine, yours have seams, you’ll need to pay extra attention to keeping those areas clean. While quartz itself doesn’t absorb stains, debris can accumulate in the seams over time. I’d recommend using a small brush every now and then to keep them looking fresh. If you prefer a seamless look, be sure to ask your supplier about full-slab options, though keep in mind that this could slightly increase your budget.

Final Verdict: Would I Recommend Quartz Countertops?

My answer?Absolutely Yes!

Choosing kitchen quartz countertop was a worthwhile investment, and I believe we’ll continue to love our decision for many years to come. They’re durable, easy to maintain, and perfect for anyone who doesn’t want to spend too much time worrying about countertop upkeep. As long as you’re mindful of heat exposure and clean the seams periodically, your quartz countertops will stay looking as good as new!

I hope this review helps anyone who’s considering kitchen quartz countertops for their home. Wishing you all the best on your kitchen renovation journey!
